The many aspects of the life and career of Jan Christiaan Smuts (1870-1950) - statesman, lawyer, botanist, philosopher, farmer and family man - can be seen in this wood-and-iron house in the country environment of the Field Marshall's farm, Doornkloof

Paul Kruger Woning

Built in 1883 for Paul Kruger, President of the South African (Transvaal) Republic. Left unchanged since President Kruger and his wife lived in it with numerous personal relics of themselves.

Klapperkopfort

Klapperkop was the third of four forts erected after the Jameson raid to protect Pretoria againsts similar incursions. It was inaugurated on January 18, 1898, but when the British marched into Pretoria in 1900 during the Anglo Boer War not a single shot was fired from any of the forts. By that time the Boer forces had been in the field for some time and the original Long Tom cannons had been put to use elsewhere.
